Swim Pace Calculator (per 100 m / 100 yd)
Convert total swim time and distance into pace per 100 m or 100 yd, plus split projections.
What this calculates
Swimmers measure speed in time per 100 of their pool unit (meters or yards). This calculator turns any total time and distance into your pace, plus projects splits at common race distances.
Formula & how it works
Pace per 100 = (total seconds ÷ distance) × 100. Distance in same unit as the 100. For unit conversion: 1 yd = 0.9144 m.
Worked example
1,500 m in 26:00 (1,560 s). Pace = 1,560 ÷ 1,500 × 100 = 104 s = 1:44 per 100 m.
Frequently asked questions
Why per 100, not per km?
Pools are 25/50 m or 25 yd, so 100 is one or two laps — a unit swimmers feel in real-time.
Open water vs pool?
Open water is typically 10-20% slower for the same effort due to chop, sighting, and no walls to push off.
CSS pace?
Critical swim speed ≈ (400 m time − 200 m time) ÷ 2 in seconds per 100. Useful aerobic threshold for training zones.
